I know kids will always prefer an unhealthy cereal bar than a piece of fruit or some nuts, so how do we as parents give them healthy options that still have the same appeal? We get creative!
In addition to the staples of cut up fruit, fruit salad and yogurt, cheese and wholegrain crackers, vegetable sticks and flavoured hummus, there’s a few ‘special’ (but still healthy) snack recipes I rotate through in our household and are always a hit with kids. These these amazing healthy snack ideas for kids snack recipes are simple and quick recipes that your kids can help you with too. They also cater to many dietary restrictions so that no one misses out!
First of all, this chocolate fudge is one my favourites. This chocolate fudge recipe is crazy easy (and cheap!) to make. I will be giving my son this instead of chocolate eggs for Easter this year (he’s only 1, so I can get away with it!).
This banana split is a great after school snack that the older kids could make themselves. Ask them to make you one while they are at it! Don’t let the “high protein” fool you, it comes from cottage cheese and kids need protein just as much as we do for growth, strength and brain power.
Anyone else grow up with this Mars Bar Slice? After I overindulged in the real thing a while back, I knew I needed to make a healthy version so I could indulge without the guilt. This is also a great one to make for kids birthday parties and events.
These chocolate dipped frozen mango pops perfect summer treat! Even the little kids can help make this one, maybe with some mess included.
These chai spiced biscuits can be ready to eat within half an hour. I like to whip these up when someone comes over for coffee or a play date and I don’t feel guilty sharing them with the kids. They are also the perfect rainy day treat with a cup of tea for the mama’s.
A smoothie of any kind is a winner snack in my book. The kids can get involved and choose what fruit, veg and milk they want to put in it. If you are after a failsafe combination, try this Banana, Cinnamon and Almond Smoothie. A great snack or even a breakfast option!
A Choc Top Muesli Bar recipe without copious amounts of sugar! This is a great one to give the kids on the go or pack in their lunch box.
This is the only savoury recipe I have featured in this list. I figure kids prefer sweet food, so I didn’t add many of my savoury recipes in. These breadsticks are still a hit even without the sweetness for all ages. I keep a ziploc bag of these in my nappy bag and can give them to my toddler when he starts to fuss, they keep him happy.
Banana, Honey & Peanut Butter Muffins are a yummy, energising snack that the kids will love. You cannot go wrong with this flavour combo.
Pods are a favourite of all kids right? Give them these Choc Mint Pods and just hope there will be some left over for you… Actually I would make a double batch and hide half… they’re too good to miss out on!
You may have noticed these amazing healthy snack ideas for kids snack recipes aren’t just kid friendly, but they are adult friendly too! Why cook two lots of snacks?
