Since having kids, my idea of looking hot pretty much consists of wearing sweatpants, a jumper/sweatshirt and flip flops for shoes. Add the famous “mothers bun” to the equation for a sleek and stylish hair style and my accessories aka a kid on each hip.  For top measure, don’t forget the make-up otherwise known as “bags” under my eyes from lack of sleep and there you have it … the absolute perfect picture of hotness.

I know it might be hard to believe (based on the picture I just painted for you), but I use to scrub up ok pre-kids. My wardrobe consisted of a mixture of great clothes, makeup, I use to even wear my hair down and hell I also owned a few pairs of high heels.  However, when I fell pregnant and gained so much weight that within the first 8 weeks of being pregnancy I outgrew my clothes, my care factor for fashion quickly changed and all that mattered was comfort.

Fast forward 6 years and it’s only been recently that I started to really focus on my own self-care. Between the late nights, sick babies, teething babies, toilet training babies, don’t want to sleep in your own bed babies, working full time, while also running my business Finlee & Me oh and being a mother, wife, friend, daughter etc doesn’t leave a lot of time for self-care and fashion. It’s taken me 6 years to finally start having some “spare time” and what I’ve realised is that that I’m a better Mother, wife, friend, co-worker when I feel good about myself.

So for all the other tired Mothers out there, I just want you to know; you’ve got this. It’s ok to choose comfort because I still choose comfort 6 out of the 7 days, but I still want to share with you my Top 5 Tips to Help Exhausted Mothers Look and Feel Good About Themselves because it’s never to early to start taking care of yourself.

5 Tips to Help Exhausted Mothers Look and Feel Good About Themselves

  1. Have a Shower – the simple task of jumping in the shower, washing your hair and being in peace and quiet for 5 minutes can start your day off on a positive note. Literally take 5 minutes each day, for the next week and shower daily and I promise you’ll start to look and feel good about yourself.
  2. Blow Dry Your Hair – once you’ve showered, take 3-5 minutes to brush your hair and quickly blow dry your hair. I’m not talking about curling your hair or straightening your hair or even blow drying it until everything is dry. Just spend a few minutes getting the moisture out of your hair and this simple task will also have you feeling so much better about yourself.
  3. Wear Mascara –  take 30 seconds and pop on some mascara, you’ll feel your confidence build instantly.
  4. Wear Perfume – research shows that perfume helps to boost mood. So squirt yourself with your favorite perfume and watch you put a bounce back into your step.
  5. Buy Clothes that Fit – this is something I continue to work on because I’m in that stage where my clothes are either too tight or too big. So when I was given the opportunity to shop at Rockmans to purchase some new clothes, I was over the moon.

I haven’t been shopping for myself for a VERY long time, so as I entered Rockmans I was like a kid in a candy store. I forgot how many beautiful prints there are, the different textures of fabrics and what it’s like to interact with real human beings when my kids aren’t hanging on me.

I had an amazing experience trying on a variety of the latest trends that Rockmans have sourced from around the world and even found myself a few great pieces. Have a look for yourself (don’t judge but I wanted to capture the photos authentically vs me posing in candlelight. I’m a mother just like you).

What I loved is that Rockmans delivers to Australian women just like me and you, with the latest looks, while at the same time not breaking the bank account. If you’re needing to expand your wardrobe because your items are too tight or too big then I encourage you to either pop into your local Rockmans store, head to their online store or follow them on their Facebook page to keep up to date with everything fashion.

Self-care for Mothers is important and all Mothers deserve to look and feel good about themselves. I encourage each of you to at least implement 1 of my 5 tips because I promise you’ll start feeling better about yourself.

Love,

Angela xx
